This delightful folktale about the trickster spider Anansi comes to life in this play for younger elementary students on up. Youngsters will enjoy the humor in the story, performing the delightful animal characterizations, and will recognize the classic tale of African/ Caribbean origin. A wonderful short play for Black History Month presentations.

Synopsis:
In Anansi and the Sky God's Stories, the spider Anansi wants to save the Sky God's special stories for his own family, but finds he must accomplish several impossible tasks before the Sky God will give them to him. With the help of his wife, Aso, Anansi is able to trick the other animals in the jungle (in true Anansi fashion) into helping him complete the tasks.

Description:
In this 15-20 minute one-act play script, all characters except for the Sky God are animals and so can be any gender. Anansi and his wife are traditionally male and female characters, respectively. The play script features 1 strong lead (Anansi), a large narrator part (which may be split among several actors--and done with script in hand), 6 supporting characters, and several non speaking roles which are expandable in number, depending on the number of students to be cast. Best for elementary school students, second or third grade up, but will work with uninhibited middle and high school students, especially if they are performing it as a children's play for a young audience.
