Can history, literacy and the arts be integrated all at the same time? Imagine your students presenting a readers theatre performance of this story of a young cowboy's coming of age in the American Old West. They will feel good about themselves, improve their reading and speaking skills, and teach themselves and their audience something of the realities of cowboys in the Wild West.

Synopsis:
When a young lad finds himself looking for work in the Wyoming of the Old West, he takes a job as a cowboy on a local ranch. It's hard work, and one day he meets his first love in a local Jackson Hole Saloon. He also meets a couple of self-proclaimed lawmen who kindle his sense of injustice and ire, and then enlist his help to round up some wild west outlaws. In the process, the ad hoc vigilante committee ends up killing the outlaws and the young cowboy gets a sobering lesson. Some years later, the now older and more cynical cowboy participates in another vigilante committee, driving a sheepherder out of Jacksons Hole and destroying his herd.

Description:
This 10-minute readers theatre play script on Cowboys in the Wild West can also be performed as a narrated pantomime with a large narration part, (which can be broken up among many good readers), and silent (pantomime) parts for 10 or more characters. This script is excellent for an upper elementary school, middle school or high school cast. The hard copy version is 8 1/2" x 11" in size, spiral bound so it will lie flat on a desk or music stand for reading, and with color cover. Downloadable ebook also available.
