The Nightingale play script adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale cover Let your students build their own self esteem while at the same time seeing this classic fairy tale come to life in their own performance. The Nightingale is not only a good vehicle for multicultural studies of China, but also teaches a wonderful lesson about the glamour of materialism.

Synopsis:
 The Emperor of China reads in a book that of all the treasures in his land, the Nightingale was the most precious. He sets out to hear the Nightingales song in the woods and is so inspired he invites it to court to stay there. Once there he puts it in a cage. When he receives a mechanical nightingale which is encrusted with jewels, he and his court forget all about the real Nightingale who escapes the court and disappears. Later when the Emperor falls ill and is on his death bed, it is the real Nightingale who returns to heal him with her song.

Description:
 This 10-15 minute play script of The Nightingale features 1 major narrator role (which can be divided amongst several actors), 3 major roles and 10 supporting characters. There is an expandable chorus which can be any size (some with lines) to accommodate the desired size of the cast. Gender is interchangeable on some of the roles. This script is excellent for elementary or middle school casts from about 3rd grade or older and works well for adults, too. The hard copy version is 8 1/2" x 11" in size with spiral binding (which lets it lie flat on a desk, when opened) and color cover.
