Two Anansi Tales play script of the Talking Melon and the Moss Covered Rock cover This delightful folktale about the trickster spider Anansi comes to life in this play for younger elementary students on up. Youngsters will enjoy the humor in the story, performing the delightful animal characterizations, and will recognize the classic tale of African/ Caribbean origin.

Synopsis:
 In Anansi and the Talking Melon, the spider Anansi finds himself sneaking a meal inside a melon when the melon patch owner appears. Rather than run, the trickster spider decides to have some fun at the owner's expense (and ultimately of all the other animals in the jungle) by becoming the voice of the "talking melon," which (surprise, surprise) turns out to have a very insulting attitude.

Description:
 In this 15-20 minute one-act play, all characters are animals and so can be any gender. It features 1 strong lead (Anansi), 7 strong supporting characters, and several non speaking roles which are expandable in number, depending on the number of students to be cast. Best for elementary school students, second or third grade up, but will work with uninhibited middle and high school students, especially if they are performing it as a children's play for a young audience.
