Madame C. J Walker biography of America's first black woman millionaire play Script cover Among the famous Black history American roll models who impacted the entire world, we must certainly include an inspirational story of faith and perserverance against all odds, the story of Madame C. J Walker, one of the most famous black women inventors of all time. Students will learn how an orphaned daughter of a poor black sharecropper, newly freed after the Civil War, went from destitution to becoming the first black woman millionaire in America. A testament to the American ethic that it is possible for anyone to succeed, regardless of the conditions in which they start their life.

Synopsis:
 Sarah Breedlove was born the daughter of a poor black sharecropper shortly after the end of the American Civil War. When her parents die in her childhood, she and her sister set out to make their fortune. When Sarah has a dream one night about helping black women with a new line of African American women's hair care products, she puts her dream into action. In time, with perserverance and application she becomes a millionaire, changes her name to Madame C. J Walker, and begins to give back to and to strengthen her community, establishing herself as one of the famous black history Americans and most well known women inventors we admire and emulate today.

Description:
 This 45-minute one-act features 1 strong female character (Madame C. J Walker), 5 good female and 5 good male supporting characters with at least 16 smaller supporting roles (some of which can be double cast) and a chorus which is expandable in size, depending on the number of students to be used. Good for upper elementary, middle and high school students. Can be intergenerational, as there are both adult and child roles. Production ideas for sets, costumes, etc. are included. The hard copy version is 8 1/2" x 11" in size with spiral binding (which lets it lie flat on a desk, when opened) and color cover.
